Réka Somogyi „The thief is the desire for the non-constancy, who deprives me from my peace and happiness. If you have this kind of desire, form it to be the subject, to know, who you really are.” This is the sentence, which shows me the right direction when I start painting.
Somogyi Réka was born 1974 in Hungary. She started silk-painting, when she was 22. At that time, she was still a university student and was on journalist training in Germany before graduating in German and Swedish Literature. Her host happened to be a famous silk painter ot the time, Ingris Zeelau, who introduced her the technic and the beauty of silk painting. Having tried herself in it, Réka decided soon that this is the art, she wants to live for.
According to her explanations she paints silk as a diary of her life. Her style also has been changing gradually. While her early works were rather mandala-like paintings, they here become more personal and comic-like in time. Longing and humor can equally be seen on her works.
